Konoe Sakihisa

$1,000,000.00

Konoe Sakihisa was a high-ranking courtier during the Sengoku period who began his career in the court in the year 1541. After he was forced to leave the capital by Shogun Yoshiaki, Sakihisa received a significant donation of 300 koku from Nobunaga, which was the start of their relationship. In the following years, he became a confidant of Nobunaga by acting as a mediator between other warlords and the courts and as a leader to a group of nobles who supported Nobunaga. Konoe Sakihisa was trusted to negotiate essential matters like making peace at Honganji under Emperor Ogimachi. He was also tasked to send important letters to high-profile people, which showed how much Nobunaga valued him. In 1580, Nobunaga entrusted Sakihisa to represent him in his efforts for the families of Ōtomo and Shimazu to make peace with each other since Sakihisa had excellent contact with the Shimazu. This showed how vital Sakihisa’s role as a courtier was because of his connections with high-ranking families like the Shimazu and one of Japan's great unifiers Oda Nobunaga.
